Just out of pure curiosity, is anyone in our little group familiar with the His Dark Materials series? The fic I'm writing deals with it quite a bit, particularly the concept of daemons.

If anyone's given any thought to what forms the characters of Les Mis' daemons would take, input would be lovely! I already have some ideas for a few characters, but it'd be great to have some other opinions and ideas, particularly for the Amis, who I'm still not totally confident writing.

Whee, Christmas!

I have a new laptop, yay! Unfortunately, this means I must navigate the abomination known as Windows 8, but I'm sure I'll figure it out quickly enough. Thank god I have Google on my side.

There were no midnight showings of Les Mis, but I'm hopefully seeing it tonight, right after the Doctor Who special.

Also, pictures of the three stuffed animal!Amis are coming soon. Promise.

Edit: Or not! Les Mis is tomorrow, because Doctor Who is on at nine and I'd rather not only get to watch half of that.

Just finished Journey's End.

I hate this stupid show about a stupid time traveling alien and his stupid police box time machine and the stupid people who go along with him and ALL THE STUPID THINGS IT MAKES ME FEEL.

And yet...

Because that's all I've ever really posted on here, gosh.

BUT. There's been something that's been bothering me for a long, long time and I've finally been able to put it into words. So, hopefully you'll bear with me.

I've been noticing a lot of fics that tend to portray Cosette in a...somewhat odd way to me, especially considering their views on Eponine and Marius/Eponine. Basically, they've been turning her into a Purity Sue.

TO elaborate, a lot of these fics show Cosette in an overly good light. It's exactly what Eppie-boppers do to Eponine, but they don't even notice that. Now, there's certainly nothing wrong with making Cosette kind and sweet and gentle, that's who she is, but to make her pure as pure can be and entirely innocent just seems wrong. Especially since many of these fics tend to compare her to Eponine, painting her as a nasty, hideous troll-beast in comparison to Cosette's innocent, beautiful lady.

Maybe this is just my overreaction, but is it so wrong to think that Cosette's being placed on a pedestal by these fans, and made perfect and wonderful just to play a foil to Eponine? It could be just Hugo's writing, but it's just been bothering me for a long time.

Bad news: My Eponine is exceptionally rusty after my brain was taken over by a new muse. Blame Doctor Who for that. So, apologies on that until I can get her voice back.
